Gifford, presidept of the American Telephone and Tele- graph company, is the author of the feature article of the month. His topic is, "Does Business Want Schol- ars?" An article on "The Development' of the Electric Arc Welding Pro- cess" by A, R. Allard of the West- inghouse Electric and Manufactur- ing company is another feature of the issue. It is spared the usual tech-nical details and written from the viewpoint of a layman. Other articles are "Electrical Prospecting," describing a new imethod of locating ore bodies by means of electrical instruments de- signed for the purpose, and "New- ton's Approximation" which out- lines an easily, understandable method for determining the roots of equations ordinarily unsolvable.'
