Miss Henry got the idea for her
first invention when she saw peo-
ple carrying unwieldy, heavy im-
brellas on a rainy day. She went
to a manufacturer in New York
and suggested,"that he make um-
brellas with perforated ribs, to
lighten the weight, and a snap-on!
cover. Seven factory owners turned
her down, but the eighth listened,
and sold $40,000 worth of her um-
brellas within three months.
