Why Open To Students The William H. Baldwin prize for 1930 is also a much sought after prize and its award of $100, is given forthe best essay of approx-: imately 10,000 words on municipal government. It is open to the undergraduate students of the University and is offered by the, National Municipal League in fur- thering the aims and ideals of Wil- liam H. Baldwin. Baldwin, who wasx called the "Sir Galahad of the Market,"' was the great railroad magnate who was president of the: Long Island Railroad at the age of 33 and who died at 41. Competi- tion for this prize closes May 25. Two other prizes of great interest are the Penfield scholarships and the award of the Chicago Trust company. The Penfield scholar- ships are offered to further study in diplomacy, international affairs, and "belles-lettres." There are fivei of these, each amounting to $1,000, and they are based on the incomes of $80,000 left by Fredrick Court- land Penfield of New York univer- sity. The Chicago Trust company prize, on the other hand, is the Triennial Research prize of $2,500 for research in the field of business, development and the modern trust company, and is to be awarded in the summer of 1930. Ithaca.-Law students at Cornell University have inaugurated a new form of legal "service" that may be afflicted upon unsuspecting de-' fendants.E Recently they dropped from an airplane a number of summons and' complaints, which landed on the campus. The recipients of these cir- culars filed their "answers" at Wil- lard hall, and those who were lucky received free passes to the Barris- ters' Ball, the lawyers' biggest so- cial function of the year.
