Champ As A Sophomore Last year Ault came to the. fore finishing the dual meet season undefeated and winning the Cjnl terence 440 yard championship. H also placed third in the 220 yardl - event behind Darnall and Schwaitz. I The Big Ten record he set in the quarter mile still stands. In the national collegiate meet at Phila- deiphia, Ault lost a close race to Shields of Brigham Young in the 440 yard swim. He also took fourth in the 220 yard event. In the Yale dual meet, Ault cap- tured Michigan's only first place by covering the quarter mile in thy sensational time of 5:01.8, creatmng a- new intercollegiate record for n long pool. Last summer Ault was a member of the Canadian Olympic team, and he swam in the 800 and 1500 meter events at Amsterdam. In the latter event he took sixth place, competing against the aqua- tic stars- of the world. Drops 220 To Schwartz This season Ault easily won the 440 yard swim in the Big Ten meet at Chicago, but lost a hard battle to Schwartz of Northwestern in the 220 yard event. He will swiun in' the national collegiate meet at St- ~o .d.s this week in quest of further honcre. Ault succeeds Dick Spn- die, star back stroker, as Varsity *captain. Coach Matt Mann will take eigh. of the Wolverines to the national meet at St. Louis, Walker, Walaitis, Seager, and Ault will make up the 200 yard relay team. Walker will lso sim rinthe 50 and 100nyard ed in the fancy diving. Ault will lso compete in his specialties, the George 'Hubbell and Dick Spindle are slated to swim in the 150 yard back stroke.
