Seven men on the 1928-29 hockey squad were awarded varsity letters while six others were given "AMA" letters by Coach Eddie Lowrey yes- terday. Of the 13 hockey players thus awarded only four will be lost to the squad next year, two "M" men and two "AMA" men. The men awarded Varsity letters are C. Grace, Sarnia, Ont.; Clar- -ence Bryant, '30, Calumet; Samuel Hart,30, North Bay, Ont.; Gabriel Joseph, '29, Fargo, N. D.; William Maney, '29, Duluth, Minn.; J. Fish- er, '30, Laurium; John Abbett, '30, Duluth, Minn. Schianderer Gets "AMA" Those 'given the "AMA" award are Arthur Schlanderer, '31, Ann Arbor; Glen Copeland, '29, Lake- wood, Ohio; Thomas Courtis, '30, Detroit; William Mason, '30, Han- cock; Francis Shea, '29, Eveleth, Minn.; Albert Nygord, '30, Calumet. Grace began the season -as an un- known when the call was made for candidates for the goal tenders', position and developed into one. of # the strongest goalies in the Con- ference. Hart besides playing a steady game at defense was the in- dividual high point scorer on the squad and was placed on Coach Lowrey's All Conference team. Bryant, Fisher, and Abbett play-1 ed throughout the, season and were, strong factors in the success of the 'team's scoring ability. All of these. men have one more year of compe- tition and should form the nucleus of next years' sextet. Joseph and Bryant, two veterans who saw serv- ice during most of the games this year and carried the brunt of the attack, will be lost to the squad next year. t " With the exception of Shea and Copeland who are to be.graduated. this year, all of the "AMA" men will return to strengthen next year's team. Experience should make Schlanderer, Courtis, Mason, and Nygord valuable players next 'season. LACK OF COMPEITION'09 With the twenty-fourth annual dual track meet between Michigan and. Cornell' scheduled. for this! Saturday, Coach Steve Farrell will ! send a team of men who have had~ vrtuall no competition against aj squad which had competed in in- door meets for several weeks. The Cornell team boasts a 58-1 55 victory over the Yale thinclads ' this year, showing particular strength in the, distance runs, cap-! turing. all three places in the mile and. two mile events. As well, they took every place in the 16 pound shot put. Since 19.21, Cornell has been suc- j cessful in only one meet with the Wolverines, winning the event in 1922 with a score of 59-27. In all of the other meets in recent years Michigan has scored, overwhelming victories, being held to the closest score, 50 1-2-44 1-2 last year. How- ever, this year Michigan is sure of points in the sprints with Tolan, one of the fastest men in the Bigl Ten entered in these events. The Seymour twins are expected to give the Cornell long distance tars some trouble in the runs. r encing Captain WIGGERS TO GRADUATE Kenneth Stolpman, '31M., of Detroit, has been elected captain of the 1930 fencing team to succeed Maurice Lazar, the retiring cap- tain.
