Frank Cody; former president of
the Michigan State Board of Edu-
cation, who received an honorary
degree from the, University in 1924.
was nominated yesterday to head
the National Education associa-
tion, which is meeting this week
at Cleveland, Ohio. This nomina-
tion is said to mean that election
of Mr. Cody is assured.
Eighteen members of the Uni-
versity faculty of the ;School of
Education are also attending this
convention, each speaking at ses-
sions on the various phases of
education.
Dr. a B Edmonson, dean of the
School of Education, spoke yester-
day before secondary school heads
on "The Principal's Program for
Training Pupils inl Habits' of
Study." "Year after year," said
Dr. Edmonson, "Universities all
over the country report that fresh-
men complain particularly of the
'ack of specific training in matters
of study. This is a severe indict-
ment of the training of our sec-
ondary schools.
"It is generally agreed," he said,
"by high school heads that stu-
dents are decidedly deficient in
habits, but it seems difficult to
secure agreement as to the effec-
tive plans to follow in correcting
the weakness.
"Through our inspection," Dr.
Edmonson added, "we are, there-
fore, urging that every high school
in Michigan adopt some definite
plan. We hope eventually to re-
quire that ever# school on the ac-
credited list of the University shall
have some definite plan for train-
ing students in study habits."
Dr. Edmonson presented an ac-
(ount of the plan recommended by
the inspectors in Michigan to the
secondary schools of the state.
