Osborn, author, explorer,' and ex-governor of Michigan, in his recent book entitled "The Earth. Up- sets." Mr. Osborn was Regent of the Uni- versity from 1908 to 1911, and receiv- ed his L.L.D. degree from this Uni- versity in 1911. He was elected gov-; ernor in 1911 and served one term. Since that time he has traveled con- siderably and written several \books, among which are "*The Iron H-untei'," "Madagascar, Land of the Man-Eating Tree," and, "A Short History of Mich- igan."f "The earth is a drunked, staggering thing that falls over and down and climbs up and is the greatest acrobat we know anything about." This is another startling assertion made by Mr. Osborn. "The revolutions of the earth are almost, if not exactly, like the shinning of a baseball when thrown by Walter .Johnson. Since the orbit of the earth is quite a curve, it might be intelligent to think of the earth as a ball brown through spac, by the Master Pitcher, in the WVorld series." The imaginary axis, points out Mr'. Osborn, is not perpendicular, It is tilted to the eastward of north. An- other interesting fact is that the earth tilts more in this dir'ection all the time. The departure from the p~er-' pendicular Is a mile a year. If this keeps up. it would take tl~e earth 24,- LOIIA B 14F TYPEWRITERS =' Corona, Iiiderwood, lRenkmhntoll, Royal. We'lire f,- -all akles.
