TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 11928 TOM SKEYHiLL GIVES VIEbYS ON__MUSSOLINI Noted Australian War hero Outlines Story Of Italian Dictator In Address Sunday TRACI3S FASGISTI HISTORY "I believe that Mussolini is an his- toric process," Tom Skeyhull, well- known Australian lecturer, poet, and war hero, declared Sunday night in his address, "Musolini and the Black Shirts," given on a Wesleyan guild program. Skeyhill stated that the occasion makes the man and not the man the occasion, and that the chaos in Italy after the war inevitably lead to a Mussolini and a Fascisti movement. The war hero traced the story of the dynamic Italian and his impetuous black shirted followers from 1914 to the present time. He told of Mus- solini's socialistic work during the war, when he uttered the famous "Fight Italy! You must Il~1~t! It is your destiny!" The Australian told how public de- mand forced the Fascisti to organize a political party, and how the un- fair tactics of the Italian politicians lead Mussolini to prepare his black shirts for revolution. Skeyhill was present at the Naples demonstration where Mussolini cried "Fascisti put on your black shirts-and march to Rome! Skeyhill told of how strongly the powerful Mussolini has entrenched himself in the hearts of Italians by his substitution of an orderly, stable dictatorship, for a weak democracy. The Australian sounded a note of warning to other democracies by stat- ing that a dictatorship, without per- sonal liberty, is the inevitable result of a mismanaged democratic govern- ment.
