G. Sadler of the marine engineering de- partment in a talk 'before the mem- bers of the Transportation Club on Wednesday evening. Professor Sadler briefly outlined the decadent condition of our na- tional merchant marine and explain- ed to the club members a plan now being completed, to restore the im- portance of American shipping and reduce our dependence on foreign carriers. The plan involves ;the building of six super-fast and super- efficient ships which would make the' trip across the Atlantic in four days instead of the six required by our present fastest steaners. These ships, according to Professor Sadler, would prove the salvation of the American merchant marine and would be an inestimable asset to our country in the event of a foreign war. BUREAU OF APPOINTMENTS REQUIRES RECOMMENDATIONS s "Some of those who are now en- rolled with the Bureau have evident- ly forgotten that they must have four personal recommendations and a photograph included with the other required material before we can re- commend them to any position," said Mrs. Hellen Shambaugh, secretary of the Bureau of Appointments in speaking of the latest developments in her department, yesterday after- noon. She pointed out that calls were coming in daily in increasing numbers for teachers to begin work, next fall, and that many of those now enrolled would lose probable places if they neglected these impor-; tant things, longer. Location blanks, which each -per- son enrolled is required to fill out during this week end and which give the places where the person may be located during each part of the day, are also required before recon.men- dations will be made from the bur- eau, she announced. Location blanks are now available at the ofifee. :n Tappan hall and ,may be filled out as soon as schedules are complete. That the bureau is doing an in- creased amount of work, this year, is shown by the fact that at this time, last year, 435 were enrolle i as I. WHITNEY THEATRE SATURDAY NIGHT, FEB. 18th.
