BADGERS MEET ALUMNI IN PRE-SEASON CONTEST (Special to The Dailf) MADISON, Nov. 29-Coach Walter Meanwell's Badgers will make their second public appearance of the sea-.- son at the old Armory gymnasium this evening in a regulation game with a picked team of former Varsi- ty stars. This contest between the Wisconsin Varsity and the Alumni is d the second of a series of three open games scheduled to be played prior to the season's start Dec. 10. More than 800 fans were present to view the Badger basketball squad in their first public appearance against the freshmen a week ago. The department plans on a much larger audience tomorrow evening, for local enthusiasts are eager to see how the old-timers will look when pitted against the present Varsity. The same players who competed against the yearlings in the first ex- hibition tilt will be used by Dr. Mean- well. Bud Foster has a corner on the center position, with all other cardli- dates ruled ineligible. The rangy sophomore, a Chicago lad, is lacking experience but has much natural abil- ity. He is a dangerous man under the basket, an accurate passer,#but not a power defensively. The four forwards who will care for the offensive assignments the first semester, Capt. Behr, Andrews, Matthusen and Ellerman, will be al- ternated in tonight's battle. The Rockford twins, Behr and Andrews, are well known to Badger *fans. They were teammates in prep school and are playing their third year as for- wards at Wisconsin. Ellerman, a baseball man, was used as a reserve! a year ago, and has been improving by leaps and bounds this fall. Mat- thusen, is a little forward, stockily built and most valuable for his floor work. Doyle and Nelson will start the game for the Varsity at the guards, with Bill Thiele and Joe Murphy as alternates. George Hotchkiss, end on the football team, is not yet in shape to perform. The alumni aggregation is compos- ed of the two best guards the Bad- gers have had since 1923, the year of Williams and Tebell. Marsh Die- bold and Rollie Barnum will play the defensive posts, with ex-Capt. Doug Gibson at center. "Doc" Spooner and Les Gage will start at forwards, with Bill Goff to"relieve them. Dr. Mean- well has offered the services of his ineligibles to come to the rescue of the vets in case the pace should prove killing. WISCONSIN TO ORGANIZE WINTER SPORTS SQUAD (Special to Tthe>ail-) MADISON, Nov. 29.-The first step was taken by Director Little in pro- moting a more extensive winter sports program at Wisconsin with the an- nouncement today that Bob Nohr will act as supervisor of skiing. Nohr will organize and direct the Badger ski team, which will undoubtedly schedule a meet with Minnesota and enter several Carnivals in the Mid- west and East. NEW YORK-Seven army aviators flew from Mt Clemens, Mich., to New York last week in order to see the Army-Navy football game. 1- - THE CORRECT TUXEDO, $3.75 an evening If you wish a dinner suit for any occa- sion we will be pleased to fit you with one by the day or week-end.
