In securing a headmaster for the hew school, a committee of which Prof. Morris P. Tilley of the Universi- ty was chairman, made a countrywide search for a man of the necessary qualifications. After a year of care,- ful consideration, Dr. William O. Ste- vens, at the time headmaster of the Roger Ascham, school in White Plains,! N. Y., was chosen headmaster of the Cranbrook School. His resignation of the former position and the taking, over of his new responsibilities be- came effective Feb. 4 of this year. Dr. Stevens is eminently qualifiedE for his position as headmaster of the Cranbrook school. He is a notable figure in the school world, represent- ing the fifth generation of his family engaged in religious and secular cdlu- cation. Glraduating from Colby Col- lege in 1899, he took his Ph. D. at Yale in 1903. From Yale he went to Annapolis where for 20 years he was a member of the Naval Academy Eng- lish faculty, most of the time being senior professor and executive of the departent. In 1924 he accepted the headmastership (If the Roger Aschamn school. Dr. Stevens is a man of versatility in addition to his educational attain- ments. In college he was -a track anti tennis star, and is nova an artist of considerable ability in p~astel por'- traiture and ini pen-and- ink sketch- ing.
