ITEAM WILL ELECT CAPTAIN
_ Coach Farrell's inexperienced cros
country team will meet Purdue this
morning in the first Big Ten competi-
tion of the season over a three and
one-half mile course at Lafayette.
Only three of the 10 men that wvill
4conmpete today finished in the scorin-,
at Ann Arbor last year when the
~Wolverine harriers defeated the Boil-
ermakers, 20 to 35.
When the Michigan squad left yes-
terday morning for Lafayette, Coach
Farrell was not particularly worried1
over the outcome of the meet. W\tit l
the exception of Capt. Little, who beat.
Briggs by 65 yards last fall to %vwi
first place, the Purdue harriers failed
to show any strength, and Little grad-
uated last spring.
Three Run For Secoid T.lime
W u r e , M n o n a otte m em bers of the present team w h o
placed aigainst Purdue last year. Wi-
erfel captured third place biehind Cap)-
tain Briggs, Monroe took fourth, while
Lamont finished with Iskendarian in
a tie for sixth position.
With the exception of first , Michi-
gan runners took the next seven
places against the Boilermakers last
year. In cross country m~eets only
the first five members of a team to
finish are counted in the 'scoring. Tile
team scoring the lowest number' of
points is the winner, one point be-
ing awarded for first place, -two for
second, and so on up to 10 fnr the
last man to place.
Wolverines Minus Captain
The Wolverine harriers will be
running without a captain today as no
lettermen were left from last season.
Following today's meet however, a
captain will be elected for 1927.
Wells, AMA winner on the 1926
tsquad, is the only other experienced
runner that will be competing to-
day. Three members of last year's
freshmen team, Carlson, Jesson, and
Herbert, will be 'getting $their first
taste of Big Ten competition. Aubrey,
Goetz, and Smith complete the per-
sonnel of the Wolverine squadl.
