TEAM TO RAGE BUCKEYES
(Special to The Daily)
BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Oct. 26.-In-
diana University's cro ss-country team
will be a candidate for Big Ten honors
this year if indications me n any-
thing. Last Saturday in a qua rangu-
lar meet at Chicago the Hoosiers cap-
tured second place, Zola, of Wiscon-
sin, Big Ten two mile champion, beat-
ing Fields of Indiana out by inches.
This wek-end the Hoosiers will in-
vade Ohio State for a dual meet.
Members of the Indiana team are:
Harold Fields, Indianapolis, captain;
Carl Burris, Cicro; William Bratton,
Noblesville; Wallace Buck, Bicknell;
Ed Clapham, and Ward Dildino, Fort
iWayne; Clarence Banks, Culver; Le-
Roy' Cox, Indianapolis; John Davis,
Carmel; and James.Abromson, Port-j
land.
Another thing to be considered is
that every man on the Sucker squad
will be in perfect shape with Marriner
ready for regular tackle duty. The
strength of the Illini can scarcely be
measured from consulting the per-
sonnel of the first eleven; the reserve
power of the Indians is perhaps the
greatest in the Big Ten, although
Michigan is abundantly supplied in
this respect.
The calibre of the Illini second
siring mnay be gathered from a
statement by Coach Bob Zuppke
a week or so ago when he de-
clared that this was the first
time since lie had been coaching
at Chlanmpaign that lie could put a
second eleven on thie field nearly
equal in ability to the first.
No! No! Don't let anyone "spoof"
you-that goal kicking game of the
Wolverines is well taken care of. As
if Gilbert's 40 and 50-yard place kicks'
were not enough, the .coaches had
John Palmeroli in hand yesterday at
place kicking-and with rather prom-
ising results.
Capt. Bennie Oosterbaan is de-
veloping into a capable punter.
A little while ago Bennie was
slow in getting his kieks off; yes-
terday he handled the pig skin
like a veteran kicker. Now Michi-
gan has an all-American end who

"Red," has shown himself to be a
fairly capable flankman and may 'getj

Iiel)ixew of the great W illie lleston,

Fauring the workouts of the past
week or 10 days Ileston has shown
excellently, now that his leg in-
jury is a thing of the past, and
lie spears hisses unerringly.*
Although there is no reason to feel
that Nyland will clot get the call to
start the game, Heston should get in
at some time - perhaps against
Grange. If so, the fanciful vision of a
writer a few years ago will become a
reality when Illinois and Aliehigan
meet and it will be "Heston vs.
Grange."
Secret practice was the rule
again yesterday with% every one
being excluded wiz lie the Varsity
took a long workout on defense
against Illinois plays, special em-
phiasis being paid on stopping the
short pass. In preliminary work,
yesterdaty and Tuesday Fuller
showed up well at "breaking lip
passes.
The personnel of the squad making
the trip includes all but five men who
are left behind because of the Con-
ference rule limiting the number of
players who can be taken. Those mak-
ing the trip are Captain Oosterbaan,
Gilbert, Baer, Hoffman, Sullo, Bab-
cock, Boden, Bovard, Domhoff, Fuller,
Girinnell, Harrigan, Gabel, Geistert,
Kerr, Heston Parker, Poe, Poorman,
Robbins Straub, Miller, Thisted,
Palmerohi, Pommerening, P u ckel-
wartz, Rich, Schoeneld, Walder, Whit-
tle, and Cragin.
Joe Gemibis is not to make the
trip because of the injuries re-
c ived in the Ohio game.
11lew Tickets Remain
For Chicago Contest
More than 2,500 additional tickets
for the Chicago-Michigan game, inak-
ing the total Michigan allotment ap-
proximately 15,000 seats, have been
received from Chicago, according to
Hlarry A. Ttillotson, business manager'
of the athletic association. Applica-
tions for these tickets are now beingI
accepted at the Arministration build-
ing, but due to the rapid sale it is
not known whether applications made,
now can be filled.
More than 4,000 students and alum-
ni will occupy the Michigan rooter's
section at the Illinois game at Ur-
bana, Tillotson announced. Although
the rest of the Illinois tickets have
been sent back to Urbana, it is almost
certain that tickets will be procurable
there until game time. The Michigan
Central railroad has sold 75 tickets
for the special train to the game so
far, and expects a delegation of.more
than 400 students to take advantage
of the special rate.
BOSTON-The swimming team of
Boston Tech. will begin practice with-
in a week.
