At the last session of the West V'ir- ginia legislature,, a large sum was, appropriated for the schools of the' state, and a committee of members was appointed to see that a survey was made and plans submitted for judicious expenditure of that sum. The committee appointed Prof. M. V. O'Shay of the University of Wisconsin .to take charge of the survey for them. In turn, Professor O'Shay named sev- eral prominent educators in the coun- try to take charge of the various phases of the work, Professor Davis being named to make the survey in the wide feld of secondary education. According to Dean Allen S. Whitney of the School of Education, this ap- pointment was' a great honor for Pro- fessor Davis, and it is a job that al- most every man connected with sec- ondary eduication in the country has sought. Professor Davis is now making studies of several typical high schools in West Virginia,, studying their good' * and bad qualities, the teaching sys- tems, and the other departments. He will conclude this work about the .first of November, and. will then prepare a ~report to be handed to the legislative committee for recommendation to the state legislature in. 1928.
