B. iaw fOn ( ra Idnate Relaitimis 11-ItUI Fa tlty SEES COOPERATION NEED Wilfred B. Shaw, geea ertr of the Alumni Association of the Un- iversilty, has written, an article on "The Problem of the Alumni" which appears in the current issue of Scribnler's *magazlne. The article1 deals with the relationship between the ilumni and their alma mater-and particularly with the college faculty.' AMr, ShiaV believes that the objection- able alumni element is so insignific- ant that it cau practically b~e dis- counted. H e also believes that the alumni are a vital part of the uni- versity-that their interest in the un- iversity 'and the university's interestj in them should not end with the grantino~ of a degree., Mr. Shaw acknowledges that the present. alumni situation is not what it should be. There should be more cooperation' between the alumni and the university. In his article lie says, "The solution of the problem seems to th( writer to lie in a frank and painstaking study of the whole situ- ation which will be accepted as au- thoritative at once by the professor and his former student. There are, certain elements, which, the present status of the great alum- ni bodies in all our universities *must it seems fairly obvious, must enter into such a study. In the first place, be, so to speak, acknowledged and legalized, Mr. Shaw wrote. Then, the university trustees and faculties must be brought 'to recognize, prac- tically as well as theoretically, that th o alumni are actually a part of the university, and not merely a source of fi a caIup r. A d fnly h alumni miust in some way acquire a better understanding of the education- al aims of the university. They must con:'e to recognize that it is a living and growing force, and not necessar- ily a crystallization for- all time of the place and life they knew when{ they were students."t i .. j , ; i f 3 I I . %SOUR TRUST DEPARTMENT IS READY TO SERVE YOU.
