Senate Rejection Of
Death 'Bill Approved
Commenting on the recent rejection
by the senate of the state legislature
of: the capital punishment or "death
penalty" bill, Prof. John B. Waite ofI
the law department, stated, "I think
'the. death penlty would have been
imposed so seldom that it would have
been a mere ,empty threat, and for
that reason I1believe the senate did
'well to reject capital punishment."
Under the present criminal laws,
the' maximum penalty for 'convicted
criminals Is life imrsohment, while
the proposed bill wuld have epower-
