These have been very rambling
paragraphs. With the likelihood of
being charged with triteness, the writ-
er has purposely hit here and there
from experience. If one reader has
received some slight lift or suggestion
of help, these notes will have served
their purpose. A few minutes of per-
sonal contact is much better than
pages of written "advice", with its at-I

Your alumni in New York are always
willing and glad to be called upon byf
those who wish to be aided in their
problems.
Finally, those who will be admitted
to the Bar in the immediate future, do
face unusual opportunities. If our!
country is suffering from alarming{
lawlessness and disrespect for law and
authority; if our statute books and

codes have long since needed major
excisory operations; if our reports are
overwhelmingly voluminous and de-
mand a Justinian in every state; if
admission to the Bar is too easy,
standards are too low and quality has
submitted to quantity; if our admin-
istration of criminal justice is a "dis-
grace", and the law's delays and ex-
penses on the civil side are making
our profession almost detestable to
those citizens who, voluntarily or in-
voluntarily, . must "go to court"; if
jury service is universally avoided
and there is "grave dissatisfaction
with the performance of the courts"
-if the above indictment is even frac-
tionally true, the call for highest serv-
ice by the coming legal generation is
imperative. Your opportunity is
boundless. Your privilege is unique.
