MAY DRAW' UZCUDUM
(By Associated Press)
NWYoRtK, April 27----Jack D~emp-
s , ti e ruler Of the heavyweight
kingdlom, today setaside all' doubt as
to his future ring acrtivities.
T-ugh Cls tWilsreflhis represen-
tative, and taneDempsey assured
Tex Rickard tihat he is in perfect
health a gairn and def'initely on the
comeback road. To mak~te it more em-
phatic and permit the "ballyhoo", to
g a t her headway the- former champion
wired the promioter he will fight any-
one in preliminary bouts to prove his
right to battle again for the title Gene
Tunney caTnturedl last fall.
De mps ey's first match, Rickard in-
dicated, would he with Paulino Uz-
ct~lum of Spain in the Yankee stadium
here about July 1. the survivor of
this bout will fight the winner of the
other semi-final bouthbetween Jimmy
Maloney and Jack Sharkey in the
stadium May 19 with the ultimate
winner opposing Tunney in Septem-
ber.
Rickard expects to patch u Paul-
io's differences with the New York
state athletic commission which sus-
pended him Tuesday for failure to go
through with a bout in 'Boston April)
18. The Spaniard has expressed a de-
sir to have the match arranged again
against an opponent agreeable both to
him and to the promoters..
Wilson reported that Dempsey, after
several wveeks of manual labor at his
mountain camp in California, has be-
gun to box again and was confident
,,.f his ability to miow down any op-
position between him and another shot
at the heavyweight crown.
Several doctors have pronounced
Dempsey in perfect shape, Wilson
said, and that all traces of thre blood
poisoning had gone from his system.
Reports of injury to the base of .Demp-
sey's seine have been confused with
a minor internal operation to remove
secretion believed to have caused the
blood poison attack, hie added. The en-
thusiastic trainer painted an attrac-
tive n)icture of Dempsey, brown and
rugged and weighing about 202 pounds
as he hiked through the mountains,
worked with nick anid shovel, and lug-
ged rocks to harden his muscles. The
best sign, h le said, was the liking
Dempsey showed for the grind and
the, enthusiasm he threw into the
hardy test.
Rickard also announced today 'he
will meet Tunii~y'1+ 'day morliing6 to
deposit another $i-O0,QP6 to: the credit
of the champion in accordance with
the articles of agreement for the Sep-
tember tilt. Rickard already has de-
posited the first $100,,000 of the $52517,
000 total guaranteed tjhe titleholder.

All of the Varsity track sqtuad with
the exception of Captain Northrop,
Cooper, Nester, Ketz, H-ornberger, and
Schravesand who will compete in the
Penn relays and Coach Charles Hloyt'sI
freshman squad will participate in a!
track meet beginning at 2: 30 Saturday '
-at Ferry Field. T'his will be the second4
practice meet of the season for the
freshmen as a similar meet was stag-
ed last week end by the yearlings ir 0
those of the Varsity squad who (did
not go to the Ohio relays.
jThe meet will be in charge of
j CacesHoyt and Veenker and will
~i b rnoff in regular dual meet order
~under the rufles of Big Ten compe-
tition. The distance men of bo0th thel
fresh-mean and the Varsity squads will{
,run together, while the sprints aril the (
hurdles will be run off as separate,
events for Varsity and freshman
trackm en. Members of both squads
will compete in the various field
events.
The outcome of the meet will serve
in a large mneasufre to determnine which
of the Varsity candidates will be en
tered in the first dual meet of the
i season which will be held with Iowa
on May 7 at Ferry Field. it will help
Coach Hoyt to decide the makeup of
the freshman team which will engage
t he Wisconsin freshmen in the first
telegraphic meet of the -outdoor season
some time next week.
Unfavorable weather conditions
have hampered the freshman squad
considerably and with the exception
of the practice meet last week end,
Coach H-oyt has had little opportunity
to judge the outdoor strength, of the
yearlings. Other meets are b~eing ar-
ranged for the freshmnan team and
the coach intends to have a, dual meet
every week end for the next three
*weeks.
IBeginning at 2:30 Saturday the
events will be run off in the following
order: 100 yard dash, pole vault, and
} shot nut; 2:35, mile; 2:40, 220 yard
dash; 2:45, 120 yard high hurdles;
2450, 440;'3:00, two mile, hammer, and
broad jump; 3:10, ;220 yal-d low
hurdles; 3:15, 880; 3:20, discus, 3:30,
javelin. The broad jump will begin
as soon as the pole vault has been
completed.
