NEW YORK, Feb,,14.-Charles Gor-'
nian, of St. Johns, New Brunswick,
today clipped- one second from the-
world's record for the 440 yard skat-
ing event. He won the race, :35 3-5.
The previouis record, :36 3-5 at SarnacI;
lake in 1792-4.1
Gormnan'S now record was estate-(1
hiled inl connection with the rational
amateur utldoor skating champion-
shiip, transferred here from Detroit.
William Logan, also of St. Johns,;
took: second place in the 4440 yard
event, and Heinry Nelson, of Chicago,
third.
Valentine Bialis, of Lake Placid,
won thne one mile event; Gorman was
second, and Nelson third.
