Worley of the transportation d1epartment in his lecture yesterday on "Early Aniei'ican Engineers," re- l1fed how he 'had finally learned what had happened to Mr. Evan's papers and works. "I had found, here' and there," ex- plained :Professor Worley, "faint ev- idences of the~great work which Evans# had done but I was never able to find anything definite. At last I heard of a roan in Phldepi who 'had two of Evan's books. ,I made an ap- pointment to see him, and after much talking, he finally agreed to present the books to the transportation li-. brary of the' UJniversity. "In these books," declared Profes- sor Worley, "I found a most wonder- ful account of Evans' life and his work, and also an explanation of the reason-why his work is not well known. In a memorandum written in one of the books, Evans leaves this note: For four or five years I have dlespaired of protecting my patents. The court has even held that my pri- vate, patent right is an infringement of public right.'" Sink School of Music Ann Arbor, Michigan. Ann Arbor, Mcihigan. Dear Mr. Sink: A list of attractions for the next Ann Arbor Festival just came to hand, and I cannot forbear writing to congratulate you on the character of your program and your choice of artists. You certainly have been fortunate in getting about the best in the concert field . I don't wondeIr that your Festival programs are generally accepted as a standard by which all other events of the kind are measured. - That Ann Arbor is chosen as the place for an American Premiere of so important a work as Hoist's "Choral Symphony" would indicate a state of musical culture in.-your school and community far from common. You I I 11 make som7e of the rest of us wonder whf~at we have been accomplishing. III 11 I a
