Mr. Ws r 'rnhas been actively as- sociated wth he teaching of chemis- try and physics for many years and has held many cairmaships of In- terniational committees in connection with chemical research, particularly that which is relevant to the bureau o standards. From 1906 to 1916 he was professor of physical chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Tech- nology, then taking the position of professor of ceramic elements and head ,f the department of ceramics at the r university of Illinois, which he held until 1922. -At that time he became editor of the International Critical Tables, a position which he still lds. In addition, Mr. Washburn has written many books concerning various fields in physics and chemis- try-and is a member of the American Physical society, American Chemical society, National Research council, Royal Society of Arts, and is a fel- low in the American Academy of Arts and rSciences.. The announcement has been made by offiers of the Michigan section of the society that the lecture will be open to all persons who are interest- ed in the orl . f the bureau of stnad- ards. Gage, county attorney of Riley county, today issued a sub- poena for Stanforcj, Clinton, member of the debating team of Northwestern university, who, in a debate here is al- leged to have asserted that liquor could be obtained in Manhattan in "less than five minutes." Booth Traveing 'fellowship in Archi- tecture will be held from April 8 to 18, according to an announcement from the college of architecture. Can- didates living in Michigan will do their work -at the" University, while for those living outside the sate suitable arrangements will be made to make their drawings under the supervision of architects by whom they are em- ployed. The competition is open to grad- nates and near-gradutes of the col- lege of architecture of the University of Michigan who are un-married and whose thirty-first birthday comes after April 8, 1927. The income of the scholarship is .$1,200, a substantial re-l ward to the winner.l Those intending to participate in the competition; are requested to notify the college of Architecture.
