State, And Indiana having fallen before
Coach Keen 's men. Cornell registered
the single, victory over the Wolverines
in their first meet of the year at Cedar
Falls, by a single point margin, 12 to
11.
Coach Prehn's grapplers, on thee
other hand, have made an equally im-
pressive record for the season, having
gone through a difficult schedule with-
out the loss of a single meet. In adi-;
tion to the 17 to 3 victory against West
Virginia, the Illini have scored sue-
cesave Conference victories in four
successive Conference meets with
Wisconsin, Chicago, Minnesota, and
Iowa.
Both teams will include five veteran
matmen. The Michigan lettermen from
last year are Baker, Solomon, Watson,
Donahoe, and Rich, while Coach!
Prehn's veterans are Thacker, Sga,I
Minot, Geis and Shively. Gunlock and
Ritz are wrestling their first year of
Varsity competition, as are Sauer anl
Preston of the Wolverine outfit.
The visitors boast an enviable rec-
ord, having scored successive vi-
tories in all of the first five weights
in their four Conference meets, while
the Illini have sustained reverses in
every weight except two, the feather-
weight and the heavyweight classes.
Thacker, who demonstrated that he
is one of the leading 115 pounders
in the Conference by defeating Pfef-
fer of -Iowa, who won the position
on Coach Howard's team. from last
year's Conference champion, will
wrestle in. the 115 pound class. Either
Soga, or Hesmer, who defeated Weir
of Iowa, will receive the call in the
125-pound 'class. Both of these men
hold enviable records. Soga having
been defeated only once in Conference
competition.
In the 135 pound class Minot will
again represent Iinois, while Gun
lock appears to have an advantage
over the other 145 pounders. Geis,
158 pound star will meet the Mich-
igan captain, who holds the Big Ten
title in this division. Ritz seems cer-
tain to receive the call in the 1751
pound class, while the heavyweight
choice lies between Captain Shive-
ly, and Webster, both of whom have"
shown excellent form this year.
Captoin Shively is the other Illini'
matman who has gone through the
season without losing' a match, andf
holds the rkecord for scoring among
TIANKMI3N FACE GOPHERS~
(Continued from Page Six)
Michigan should take first place in
the 50 yard free style, providing that1
Coach Mann uses Samson or Darnall,
both of whom old better time for
this distance than Moody, S. Hill, and
Morris, Gopher dash men. Darnall islt
the most likely choice with Seager
as Michigan's other entry.
The Minnesota team is noticeably
weak in the- longer distances and
Wagner and Watson of the Wolverine,
team are picked to finish ahead of
the Goher men who will be selected
from Lucke, Bjornberg, Steenson, and
S. Hill. The 100 yard event will prob-
ably see Captain Samson pitted
against Moody and Bennett or S. H. E
H-ill.
In the 150 yard backstroke another
hard battle is predicted when Spindle,
Michigan sophomore star, meets J.
1Hi1, winner of the event in the Con-
ference meet last year. Spindle holds
a better mrk than his rival in this
event, having recently made the fast
time of 1:45.3. Hubbell of Michigan !
is also favored to place in this event.!I
The Gopher divers, Bjornberg and
Barnacle are rated slight favorites
over. Starret land Bailey of the Mich-
igan teamr, although, the Wolvrine
pair may best the invaders.
Minnesota's medley relay team,
ecmposed of Hill, backstroke, Purdy,
breaststroke, and S. Hill, Moody or!
Kennett, free style, is rated a slight
favorite over the Michigan trio, whch
will 'consist of Spindle, Shorr and
Samson.
