His loss WiNi greatly handicap the Hoosiers next! semester and may play a major part in the final standings in the Big Ten1 as no one has been developed who is I capable of taking his place.j Ml Icigan 1ceiftse Good Against this offensive and ba(c-- board play team. Michigan will pre-1 sent an outfit whose defensive work has been one of the features of the Conference race. In the game Mon- day against Illinois, only 2 of the 10 Illini baskets were scored from with-! in the 17 foot, line, the others coming on long tosses. The Michigan record is identical with Indiana's in games won. Each team has captured sevenI contests, three of them from Confer-- ence opponents. The Michigan team will line up with Chambers and Oosterbaan at forwards. Both of them are good men, though of greatly differing types. Oosterbaan excels in shots un- t der the basket and tipping the ball in while Chambers is an adept at long shots. McCoy at center will find plenty of opposition from Sibley whileE Harrigan and Petrie rate as two goodl guards. Petrie is about the hardest !man on the Wolverine squad to get byand shoot baskets. Harrigan, though a good guard, is also a great mAn on offense., The feature of the Michigan attack is the ability of all five men to make baskets. This may bother the Hoo-! siers a great deal, while,Michigan will concentrate her attention on threej men, Krueger, Beckner and Correll Although all the advantages of experi- ence, confidence and the home floor are on the side of Indiana, Michigan is conceded a fair chance of winning, and if by any chance the team is! working the same way is was against1 Iowa a week ago, the Wolverines will! undoubtedly worry the Hoosiers to the limit. The thawing weather of the past few days has turned the h-c of the Coliseum to slush, conseqiuent- ly the hockey team has been confn1ie' to work in the Yost field house. De-E velyping the wind and endurance of. the players is the most that can be accomplished without ice. Coach Barss had his men on fhe ice for two stiff practice sessions on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Team play and short passes to be used when the puck has been carried close to the net were extensively drilled. With one point as the total scoring for the two games with the Michigan College of Mines team it is apparent that the scoring punch of Wolverine is weak. Hooper, fast wingman, who was sick at the first of the week and un- able to take part in the opening games, has returned to the squad and will probably be in the starting lineup to- night. Coach Barss is undecided whether Hooper will start at a wingE position or pair with Roach as a defense man. This is Hooper's first year an Varsity hockey, but with his great speed and versatility on skates he has worked well into the combina- tion of veterans from last-year., Gabler will not be in the game to- night. Although he is rapidly re-j covering from blood poisoning his, condition is such that he could not leave the hospital last night. In his" absence Hooper may get the call to do defense work. It this course is not 1 followed Waldron, a junior, will sub- stitute for Gabler. Waldron was on the squad last year but saw very little service. HeI was in last Tuesday's game when Roach was penalized. Although Wal- dron is handicapped by lack of ex- perience in games Coach Barss feels confident that his performance in theI practice scrimmages warrant a good exhibition when he gets a start in a game. Michigan's wrestling team will meet the strong Michigan State collego team at 3:00 this afternoon at Yost, Field house in the first home meet of the season. The mat - will be phced in the cTnter of the basketball court, tans asuring ample seating facilities. There will be no admission charge for the contest. The Wolverines will enter the meet considerably weakened as the result of the loss of Naglekirk, 125 pounder, who has been wrestling at this weight. Naglekirk sustained a broken rib in Thursday's practice and may be lost to the team for some time. In the 115 pound class Baker will wrestle Gibbs, while Hardin will take Naglekirk's 'place and meet Avery, State 125 pound star. Watson, Michi- gan's 135 pounder, will face Lands- burg, who is regarded as one of the best grapplers on the Spartan team. Coach Keen is undecided as to whether he will use Sauer or Gals- ter in the 145 pound class. These men are so nearly equal in ability that the choice wfil not be made until shortly before .the meet. Captain Ber- quist, a two letter matman, will com- pete for State in this weight. Captain Donahoe will lead the Michi- gan team in its first home. meet of the 1927 season by meeting Bean or Black of the Green and White team. Hager, all-campus champion at 175 pounds, will wrestle Kurle, while Prescott, Wolverine heavyweight, will face Barrett, State's 225 pound sopho- more grappler. The seven bouts of the meet will be referred by Dickerson, who was formerly a star wrestler at Iowa State college. The matches will be ,12 min- utes in duration with a time'advantage more than one minute necessary for a decision. Subscribe for the Michigan Daly.
