Northrup and Prout have both been doing very well and are ;expected to clear 12 feet. When they reach this height Coach Farrell 'Will call a halt as hie does not want to injure the chances of the men by too strenuous work. Northup is still the "only one of the broad jump candidates who has shown promise. Coach Farrell has called for the trials to see how far the men have act- ually progressed with their condition- ing, Severs4 of the half and quarter milers have displayed good form and have been running their events in around two minutes and 55 seconds, respectively. From the long list of quarrter mrilers Coach Farrell intends to select at least two relay teams and use this an anadditional trial. Among the qurter and half milers Mueller, Ohlheiser , .'Munger, Kelly, Barton, Schmeling, and Likert are considered to be among the more promising. More can he told about their ability later. In the two mile run Horberger, Briggs, and Wells lead the candidates and among the milers Monroe and Is- kenderian are expedited to fight it out. Iskendeian has been transferred from the two mile and has been showing well. Wuerfel is also a good mhan at either distance, but is not in condi- #tion for trials yet. There has been a shortage in the number of dash men working out, but Hester, Kelly, and Lasser have been turning in good performances. Les- chinsky, star 220 'yard man, will not report regularly until after the semest- er examinations. Besides Lasser in the hurdles, the two outstanding men are Cooper~and Jones. It is about a toss- up between the latter two in the high event land both may develop in point winners for the Varsity. Lovette and1 Carson are about the only men of much ability in the shot put while little is known as yet con- cerning the, calibre of the high jump- ers. 1a1ring ineligibility, Michigan will probably have a man or two cap- able of doing better than dsix feet. Hockey Star Taken Ill Following Game Immediately following the hockey game with the Michigan College of Mines Tuesday night Neil Gabler, stellar defense man of the Wolverine team was rushed to the University hospital where he was treated to pre- vent the spread of blood posoninir which resulted from a wound caused by a skate cut sustained in practice more than a week ago. Gabler has prayed all week with his right hand in bandages and the pain reached a point :Tuesday where the"! Michigan star could wield a hockey club only with great difficulty. In spite of ,this handicap, Gabler played his usual fast and steady game against the Mines team, and his enforced ab- ,sence would hamper, the Wolverine defense considerably. Last year was Gabler's first as a regular member of the Varsity team, but his spectacular skating and close defense work won him all-Conference defense honors at the close of the season. Roach, Gabler's teammate at defense position, was also chosen on the all-Conference team. Captain Steve Jones, Michigan's stellar goalie, played a prominent part in the recent two game series by hold- igthe Mines forwards to a single goal. ;;,Michigan has shown a definite lack of a formidable offense in the three games played thus far, but Coach-Barss hopes to do away with this need before the first Conference game.
