Curtiss, professor of. astronomy and assistant director of the observatory. "Since it is impossible to make any check on such a report it is impossible for scientists to accept any such re- ports as true. As yet not any of the reported communications with Marsf have withstood verification and there is little if any possibility that this re- ported communication will bear proof, for the method employed was not scientific." PARIS.-Appropriations of 600,000,- 000 francs to finance an aviation line between Dakar, the French colony of Senegal, and Buenos Aires, was an- nounced by the French ministry. VENICE. - Beautiful St. Mark's Square, one of the main points of in- terest for tourists, is flooded- after 10 dlays of rain. American Elections Disappoint Parisians (By Associated Press) PARIS, Nov. 5.-The Parisian press has reluctantly come to the conclusion that the outcome of the American elec- "tions cannot be interpreted as mean- ing any change of heart or policy so far as Europe is concerned. The French apparently would like to have been able to see in the Demo- cratic successes some softening of the attitude towards America's European debtors, but their newspapers are in- forming them that when it comes to discussing such matters with those who owe Uncle Sam money, there is little difference between Democrat and Republican. MEXICO CITY.-Announcement was made a-t the presidential office that a rebel band, headed by "Tirso Gurrola,l chief of the Knights of Columbus in the state of Durango," has been de- feated at Arroyo de Agua by federal soldiers.
