University Senate:
The first regular meeting of the University Senate for the year 1926-1927
will be held in Room C, Law Building, on Monday, November 8, at 8:00 p. m.
Order of Business: Annual Report of the Secretary of the Senate Coun-
cil.

University Lecitre:
Professor Ramsay Muir, I. P., University of Manchester, England, will
lecture on "The Decay of Parliamentry Government" Friday, November 5th,
at 4:15 p. m. Natural Science Auditorium. The public is cordially invited.

The Ella Kromn Prize LI Sociology:
The Eita Krom prize, amounting to about $50, will be awarded in June,
1927, to the best sociological paper of three thousand to five thousand words
submitted by an under-graduate and presenting the results of a study having
in view the social betterment of the writer's own community, or of some
community with which he is familiar. Papers must be submitted by May 1,
1926. The competition is open to all undergraduates whether members of
classes in sociology or not, but must show at least such knowledge of that
subject as should be gained by work equivalent to the beginning course at
this University.

U. of IL Section, American C(icncal Society:
The next meel ing of this Section will be held on Thursday, November
4th, at 4:15 p. m: in Room 303 in the Chemistry Building.
Dr. Hans T. Clarke, of the Department of Synthetic Chemistry, East-
man Kodak Company, will speak on "Preparative Methods in Organic
Chemistry."

Prospective Teachers:
The annual meeting for registration with the Bureau of Appointments
will be held in the Auditorium of Newberry Hall, Saturday, November 6,
at 10 a. m. Seniors and graduate students who desire the services of the
Bureau for the second semester or for next fall are expected to attend this
meeting. Persons who wish to enroll with the Bureau for the sake of hav-
ing their records on file but who do not anticipate teaching next year are
also asked to be present at this meeting.

Because of the conflict with the Michigan Union Freshman Meeting, the
group meeting scheduled for tonight at my home is postponed until Tues-
day evening, November 9th.

o'clock on Friday, November 5th.

All Interfraternity Council dues must be paid by Nov. 6, otherwise
fraternities not having paid their dues will automatically forfeit their mem-
bership to the Council.

There will be a meeting of the League of Women Vote's at 4:00 today in

Chor.-l Union C'oncert:
The English Singers, consisting of Flora Mann, Nellie Carson, Lillian
Berger, Cuthbert Kelly, Norman Stone and Norman Notley, will give the
second concert in the Choral Union Series, in Hill Auditorium Friday evening
at eight o'clock. The public is reminded that the concert will begin on time,
and that the doors will be closed during numbers. Holders of course tickets
are respectfully requested to detach before leaving home, and present for
admission coupon No. 2.
The program is made up of Motets, Madrigals, Ballets, Folk songs,
Italian Street Cries, Duets, Trios, etc. by English and Italian composers of
the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

Alpha Nu:
Alpha Nu debating society will hold tryouts for membership on Friday,
Nov. 5th, from ; to 0 o'clock, in the Chapter room on the fourth floor of
Angell hall, in order to accommodate those men who still wish to tryout
for membership before the pledging of new men is brought to a close. Any
men interested in debating (especially freshmen) are invited to tryout at
this time by giving a five minute speech, on any subject, before the mem-
bership committee.

The Zoology Journal Club will meet in room 242 N. S. Bldg., Thurs.
at 7:30 p. m. Mr. Enders will review an article by Osborne on the problem
of the origin of species, Miss Cogshall will review two papers on insects and
freezing temperatures, and Mr. Hughes will review a paper on trematodes.
All interested are cordially invited to attend.

University Lecture:
Professor R. Whiddington, D. Sc., F. R. S., Director Physical Labora-
tory, University of Leeds, England, will givestwo lectures on the Conduction
of Electricity Through Gases. In his first lecture, Friday, November 5, 4:15,
West Lecture Room, Old Physics Building, he will discuss the earlier work
of Sr. J. J. Thomson and others and describe what may be seen in such a
discharge. In his second lecture, Saturday, November 6, at 10 a. m., he will
tell of recent experimental observations and discuss some possible explana-
tions of the phenomena in the light of these observations.
