Mr. Norris read and explained por- tions -o the report of Maury & Gordon, engineering firm of Chicago which in- vestigated the conditions here. The, report makes two separate recom- mendations. Tie first provides for ob- ta ining water from wells and the river. The second provides for taking all water, from the river. There is a differeuce of $135,000 'between the two prop)ositions. The first cost of the divided supply was estimated at $870,000 for all needed improvements, while the first cost of taking water from the river alone would be $725,000. In case a divided supply was ap- proved, the water from Steere farml would be softened. In this process) more than 39,000 pounds of dry solids. would be removed from the Steere farm water each day, which would mean a serious problem in disposal, Mr. Norris asserted. 711 N.
