FIIDA , OCTOBEIR 22, 1926 THE MICHIGAN -DAILY i m . . _ ., , il wrfY wrni Y [ETROIT BALLOO'N Is Word has been received that the figliball II, the Detroit Flying club! alloon in which five" University of ichigan students made a 40-mile! ight last Sunday, escaped from its hlot, Dr. G. M. Le Gallee, when he nded Wednesday, after a continuance f the flight started with the stn- ents. The. balloon is apparently! ompletely destroyed. ]e ,grou~p. of. students and the pilot took off fr'om Wyandotte at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, and landed six hours later near Belle River, Ont., dlue to insufficient ballast. Dr. Le Gallee off' i bn 1nmedi~tely follow-j -inig the landing in order to complete a requirement for his pilot's license.l The requirement was that he fly one night alone. No word was heard from Dr. Le (Gallee until yesterday when it was found that he had landed at. Grand F+orks, Potter county, Pa. He wasI climbing up the rigging preparing to deflate his balloon when a strong gust of wind came along and swept the bag off the ground. Realizing that hie could not. stop, Dr. Le Gallee dropped to the ground, and the balloon, re- lieved of his weight, sailed out of Night. It is expected that when the lag reached a high altitude, it ex- ploded due to the reduced external pressure. / "De ocracy Fails" (NEWSPAPERMEN PRESENT OPINIONS AT ANNUAL STATE 1 Mic1lclcotsjilbehI n tK igan' Is Entered1 wiinner, besides gaining the Chicgo I ~ PRESS CONVENTION IN THREE-DAY SESSION AT UNION; In OratoIcry Cntst ' a'lumi testimonial f 10, willep- (Continued from Page One) Foallowing this talk, Lee M.
