The communications are in answer to the notice of the miners' represen- tatives that the government~s latest proposals could not be accepted, the men objecting to the clause providing for a reduction of wages and length- ening of the work day, and the decli- nation of the owners, who contended that the premier's compromise sug- gestions would limit freedom of ad- ministration and would not increase the efficiency of the industry. The premier at this stage gives no intimation of what further, if any, steps the government intends to adopt, and it is expected matters will simmer for the next few days, over the Whitsuntide holidays. . iall And James W iil Continue lands of Gonave, Tcirtue, and A'Vacie. k Geographical Survey Of Haiti about the middle of August and will ___________return__ to Ann Arbor in timefo the fall term.
