SPE3AKS ON DATA USL
Accompanying the staff of the Land
Economic survey of Lansing, Prof.
K. C. McMurray of the geography de-
partment last week attended two
meetings, one at Northwestern univer-
sity, and ,the other at Menominee.
MVembers3 of the survey staff first
presented; the results of last summer's
wor'k on, Menominee county to the. In-
stitute of land Economics at North-
western, the leading organrization on
land-economics in the country, under
Richard T. Ely, formerly of Madison.
The presentation of data was done'
~at his request because of the nation-
wide interest the survey has attracted.
Professor McMurry took charge of a:
discussion of the possible utilization
of this data at both meetings.
The same maps were presented at
Menominee at a meeting-of more than
150 men representing the farming,
lumbering, landowning, and business
interests of several counties in' the
Upper Peninsula and in northern Wis-
consin. This meeting was held espec-
ially with the idea of interesting the
people of the county in developing a
plan of land utilization based upon
the findings of the Land Economic
survey,
The work of the survey consists in
the taking of a detailed inventory of
the physical and economic resources
of a county, as it is now realized that
the solution of the numerous land
problem~s of the state can only be ac-
complished on the basis of a complete
knowledge of conditions.
In this work, 41chijgan is in a posi-
tion of leadership in the country, the
survey being the first detailed one of
its kind.
The members of the geography de-
partment have been unofficially con-
nected with, and interested 'in, the sur-
vey since its organization in, 1921,
and have been active in completing
surveys of several counties in lower.
Michigan and one or two in the Upper
Peninsula.

engineering college will hold a class
meeting at 11 o'clock this morning
