Should Add Many Points To
Michigan Total
IOWA STRONG IN RELAX
Including a host of brilliant stars
and a crack one mile relay team, the
Iowa track squad, indoor Conference
champions, appears to be one of the
best balanced aggregations in the
country, and should furnish, much
competition for the Michigan track
men when the two teams clash in a
dual meet Saturday at Iowa City. |
By scoring in seven of the 10 events
in the Conference indoor meet, the
Old Gold athletes proved their all-
around ability. Moreover, in Hiunn,
Cuhel, Dauber, Phelps, and Boyles the
Iowans possess some stellar perform-
ers. However, the addition of the
hammer, javelin, an ddiscus events is
not expected to benefit the Iowans,
whose only potential point scorer in
these contests is Captain Dauber.
It is in these three events that the
Wolverines are expected to score
heavily with such men as Hawkins,
Munz, Doyle, Schravesand, Lovette,
and Northrup, all of whom are credit-
ed with good marks in their special-
ties.
Besides the weight events, the only
other contest on the outdoor program
not on the indoor schedule is the 220
yard dash, in which the Michigan
squad is represented by several ex-
cellent sprinters who are conceded a
slight advantage over the Hawkeyes.
Iowa's chief hope in the hurdle
events is dependent upon Cuhel, star
quarter miler and anchor man on the
mile relay team. This team, although
changed at times, has gone through
the year undefeated.
Perhaps the best race of the Con-
ference indoor season was that be-
tween the relay squads of Iowa and
Michigan in the indoor meet at Pat-
ten gymnasium. In this race, Cuhel
negotiated the anchor leg in such
speedy time that he was able to cut
dow a 10 yard lead held by Herrn-
stein, and nip him by barely a foot at
the finish line.
The return of Roberts .to the Iowa
squad will bolster the team and should
increase their speed by a full second,
for he is capable of better than 50
seconds in the quarter. He is also a
probable scorer in the 220. Although
the Wolverines are expected to show
better outdoors than indoors, it will
be an unexepected surprise if they de-
feat the Iowans, who ran the relay
distance in the best time for the year,
3:20, at the Kansas erlays.
Iowa Rifle Team
Wins Title Honor1
Winnig seven meets and losing
none Iowa's rifle team captured the
Conference championship. The run-
ners-up are in their order: Minnesota,
Ohio, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan.
Illinois,and Northwestern.
Mi higan won one meet and lost
six, Albert W. Myers, '27M, shooting
the pigh score for the team, averag-
ing 284 for the seven meets, or 96
hits in each position, thus winning a
silver cup furnished for the high man.
Hary C. Walker, '27E, and John A.
Whitworth, '27, tied for second place
:Ith a score of 382.

Hoosiers To Play
Purdue Tomorrow
BLOOMINGTON, Ind., April 26.-A'
small but scrappy Indiana university
baseball team will attempt to stop
Purdue's early season spurt here on
Jordan field tomorrow afternoon in
the first home Conference game of the
year.
Coach Dean brought his Crimson
nine back from the first Big Ten clash
at Ohio State yesterday and announc-
ed this morning that the same lineup
as used against the Buckeyes would
face Purdue. Too many errors have
been chalked up against the infield in
non-Conference tilts but if the play-
ers can iron out the rough edges and
bobbles by tomorrow, Purdue may
find the ball rather hard to ground
through, beyond the sacks.
Davis, lead-off man, will cavort at
short stop. He has been used in the
outer garden but in order to better
the infield Coach Dean believes it best
to move him in. Derr's hitting has
about landed him a place in the out-
field, providing Davis gets a regular
job at short.
Peck is scheduled to hold down the
hot corner hassock with Druckamill-
er at second. Correll, youthful soph-
omore slugger, has first base cinch-
ed. Hord and Burke will form the
battery. Ray, Derr and Tobin are'
booked for fly chasers.
The intercollegiate polo champion-I
ship, first of a series of competitions
that will make this g season of ex-
ceptional polo in the East. will be
6ontested there in June. The event{
will probably be held at the Westmore
Country club at Rye.
