Coach Wieman is anxious to have the men keep in perfect physical con- dition throughout the year so as to be in prime share for the difficult schedule facing the Wolverines next fall. The addition of the football men to the wrestling squad will aid infin- itely in putting wrestling here on a par with the sport at other Big Ten universities. The gat schedule for the Wolver- ines calls for five Conference meets. The Michigan team will journey to Col- umbus Jan 23 to face the Buckeyes in the opening meet of the season. Immediately after the examination period, Coach Keen and his squad will meet the Purdue grapplers here. In- diana will play host to the Wolver- ines Feb. 13 at Bloomington, and the following week Northwestern will grapple with the Maize and Blue team ! here. The last meet of the seasonis scheduled with Michigan State Feb. 27 at Lansing. This season wrestling in the Big Ten ill be divided into competition betwn groups A and B, the two groups being separated so as to reduce traveling expenses. Group A will consist of Northwestern, Indiana, Pur- due, Michigan and Ohio State; group B will include Iowa, Chicago, Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin. The win-, ner in group A competition will meet the leading team in group B, and the second team in group A will meet the i second in group B, etc., in meets to be held March 6. In this plan each team will meet its rival of relative strength inl the other groun, thereby deriving a final percentage basis upon' which the championship will be deter- mined. The individual championship meet which was held at Minneapolis lastl season has been awarded to Purdue university, March 12-13. In'order to further stimulate wrestl- ing at Michigan Coach Keen has ar- ranged plans for an all-campus tour- nament to be held Jan. 15-16. All students will eligible to compete in this tourney. Coach Matt Mann, of the Varsity swimming team, has been elected vice- president of the Conference swimming coaches. STARTTRAINING, Dick Howell Leads Swimmers; Corlett Captains Water Polo Squad Of Conerence Champions MANY VETERANS BACK EVANSTON, Dec. 7.- Coach Tom Robinson, of the Northwestern swim- ming team, will begin intensive train- ing today for candidates for the var- sity squad. Several veterans and a host of new material answered the call for men which the coach sent out last Tuesday, the majority of the candi- dates being in fair condition due to the class swimming meet which has i just been completed.s Dick Howell will captain the swim- ming team this year, with Paul Cor- bett leading the water polo squad. Other veterans from the team which won the Conference championship last ;dear who will be back are: Manovitz in the dashes, Farrell in the breast- stroke Bonnell in the backstroke, and LaPook in the fancy diving. Howell excels in the 220 yard and quarter mile races though he is also a member of the relay team and may be counted on to count in the 40 in the dual meets. Corbett in addition to being a consist- ent water polo player is also a mem- her of the relay team and the second best dashman on the squad, Manovitz being rated just a shade better in the 40 yard free style. A number of man from last year's yearling squad are expected to make strong bids for berths on the first team, Beck in the free style, McDonald in the backstroke, and Oberlin in the breaststroke being the outstanding sophomores. An interfraternity relay race will be held in conjunction with the reg- ular interfraternity meet at the Un- ion pool, medals being awarded to first and second place teams.
