The work is being done under the general direction of Prof. J. B. Ehnonson, who holds the position of high school inspector for the University, and serves on the committee on diploma schools, The University was the first major institution in the United States to accredit high school, the recommend- ed graduates of which were admitted without entrance examinations. The accrediting plan had its origin in a resolution adopted by the facul- ty in 1871 and confirmed by the Board of Regents the following year. The idea was suggested by President Henry S. Frieze, but the principle work of develorin;g and perfecting the system was done ':ader the direction of President James B. Angell. The growth of the number of ac- credited schools has been rapid in recent years. At present there are t75 public high schools and 65 private and parochial schools on the accredit-. ed list. Students of these 440 schools and those which have been visited by University authorities in the last two years, represent more than 95 per cent of the total high school enroll-. ment in the state.a Anti - Swindling Bureau Wears On Security Fakers NEW YORK, Nov. 18.-In an effort to rid the country of security swindl- ers, a securities fraud investigating 4ureau was established in the New Yorkr Stock exchange a year ago.
