Syracuse, N. Y., April 25.-Michi-
gan's / baseball team suffered itsI
second defeat at the hands of thef
hard hitting Syracuse nine here today,
taking the short end of a 9-2 score.
The Orange team kept up its hard
hitting, getting 10 hits, while Van-
lengen, star twirler, held the Mich-
igan batters to four scattered singles.
Jablonowski, was selected by Coach
Fisher to twirl the second game, but
failed to prove effective against the
heavy hitting Orangemen. The Wol-
verine nine, slumped at bat today, af-
ter hitting safely 15 times in the
opening game.
Ringwood, veteran shortstop of the'
Syracuse aggregation, played a spec-
tacular game on the field and at bat.
The Orange star connected safely
three times, two of'his hits being two
baggers.

Michigan had a great day at bat,
with Dillman, Cherry, Bachman, hit-
ting two two base hits. Benson, who
started the game on the 11Lound for
Michigan hit a two bagger, while
Ryrholm, playing right field, coun'ct-
ed with one of Schlemel's fast balls
for a three base hit.
While the Wolverines were ham-
mering the ball at will, Syracuse got
eleven safe blows. Flanagan proved
the sensation of the day, hitting safe-
ly three times out of as many trips
to the plate. Flanagan and Vanlen-

Iowa To Build
Huge FieldHouse
With the announcement that the
University of Iowa will build a huge
field house for physical education, the
Cornhuskers join the list of Confer-
ence schools which have built or aret
preparing to build huge new gymnas-
iums, which includes, Illinois, Mich-1
igan, Chicago, and Wisconsin.
According to the plans announced
by P. E. Belting, director of physical
education at Iowa City, the new field
house will be 200 by 40 feet square,
with the men's gymnasium, 100 by
200 feet. It is planned to have a great
swimming pool in the center with a
large seating capacity along the sides.
There is a possibliity of having the
pool beneath a movable basketball
court in the field house.
Other, features of the new building
are nine tennis courts, a private bas-
ketball floor, and an indoor golf
room.

GOLFERS PLAY PRACTICE
MATCH ATDETROIT-CLUB
Eight members of the recently sel-
ected Michigan Varsity golf squad of
15 men played each other in a prac-
tice match at the Detroit Golf club
yesterday.
The teams were composed of some
of the best Wolverine golfers. Capt.
Mode Holdsworth, Fred Glover, Bob
Hastings, and Paige Lehman playing
against Fred Freely, Addison Con-
nor, Wesley Reed and a fourth mai
,whose name was not announced . in
time for press. The purpose of this
practice match was to get the men in
trim for the rapidly approaching
game with Ohio State university
scheduled for next Saturday.
Last year's Varsity, golf team es-
tablished a fine record for the season,
winning three of the four regular
matches and finishing a close runner-
up in the Western Conference meet.
