PAGE iTWO THE MICHIGAN DAILY TUESDAY, APRIL 21, 14)2: THE MICHIGAN DAILY TUESDAY. APRIL 21. 1925 WELLER REPORTS ON MURDER csE' Shows Probihlity That John Baer Met Violent, or U[nnaral DeahI QUESTION' SIX PERSONS That John Bauer, who was found dead 'Sunday morning, April 12, in a barn on the George -Mike farm, North- field township, may have died a vio- lent or at least unnatural death, seemedl proba ble yesterday, following a rep~ort made by Dr. C. V. Weller, of, the University medical school, to the effect that bruises on the dead man's n1eck wer~e inflicted within an hour Of death. Microscoprix examination of tissue taken from Baer's neck was mnade by Dr. Weller, at the request of county ando state officials, after Ann Arbor relatives of Baer stated that they hrad seen' marks on Baer's neck before his trip to the Mike farm An autopsy made last week, upon request of the coroner, revealed that death had resulted from asphyxiation by strangulation, a. broken heck, andl ,a . torn spinal t'~prd, although it was at first believed that he had (ied o acute alcoholism. A secret "grand jury" examination of' six persons known to have been in John Bauer's company Saturday ight was conducted by Prosecuting, Attorney William M. Laird, officer; from the state department of public safety, and J1u sti c Andrew E. Gibson but none of the information gained was divulged. A lttio ugh no in formation could be had from any of the officers yester- day, it is assured that they will con- 1 inue their investigations, possibly at the county jail, in an attempt to solve the mystery. The report thatI the bruises seen on Baer's neck, and which may have been caused by fin gers or knuckles, had been inflicted shortly prior to his death had con- vincedl officials that death was dun, to unnatural causes; and a statememt inade by Prosecutor Laird indicate, that every possible influence will be exerted to run d Fown the person or persons implicated. 'William Bauer, brother of the dead man, who is said to have slept with him on a pile of hay in the Mike barn Saturday night, declined to sub-1 mit to questioninlg by the officers' without a subpoena being served on him. - Rome, April 20.-More than 400,-1 000 foreigners have entered Italy dur-I ing last two weeks, according to of-! ficial estimates. ~A l h r J Nghts - - 51 Io 25 GARI CK~J~1 Wed.
