The final (late for acceptance of
material is Friday, Dec. 12. Numer-
oiis contributions, all by women, have
been racelved for the issue, but mate-
rial submitted this week will be grant-
ed full consideration, according to the
editors.
Copy Of Original
World Map Found
Here In .library
Prof. L. C. Karuinski, of the math-
emnatics department, in the course of
some recent cartographical research
in the William. L. Clements' library,
has dliscovered what is probably the
only copy in existence of the first ac-
curate world map. The mnap was en-
graved by Giovanni Dominico Cassini
in 1696 and because it shows the con-
tinents correctly projected from actu-
al observations of latitude and long-
itude it is a document of importance
in the history of geography.
The map was found by Professor
Karpinshi in the Clements' library
among the maps in the collection of
,Flenry Vignaud. Since the finding of
th~e Cassini map, Randolph G. Adamns,
c'us-todian cif tie Clements' library,
has made inquiries about it at lead-
iag institutions in England and Am-
erica to atscertain the exact import-
ance of the discovery.
Word has been received that no
copy exists in the Library of Con-
gress, the British Museum, the New
York public library, the Royal Geo-
grapical Society of England or the
American Geographical society, so it
is safe to assume 'that the copy in
Ann Arbor is the only one to be
