MacFarlane, '25, president of the local
chapter of Mortarboard and Miss Lu-
ella Galliver, director of section 2 oft

burgh, Carnegie Institute of Tech-

A little over half a century ago the
first woman in America was admitted
to the bar. She was Myra BradwellI
who passed the Illinois bar examina-
tions in 1869 and qualified. for legal
practice in that state. In 1881 Leila
Robinson of Massachusetts applied toi±
take the bar examinations but 'a test'i
case before the Supreme court result-
ed in the decision' that the law (lidli
not permit women to practice. The t
following year a special act of the
legislature. was passed which correct-
ed this discrimination and permitted
women to be admitted to the bar. Sot
states an article by Zora Putnam Wil-1
kins in "The Woman Citizen."I

Junior Advisors
To Sponsor Party
A hallow e'en party, sponsored by
the junior. advisory committee will be
given from 8 to 11 o'clock, Saturday
in Barbour gymnasium. All fresh-
man women and entering upperclass
women are invited to attend.
The decorating will be done by a
committee headed by Cynthia Smith,
'26. Mummer's will present stunts
during the evening. Dancing and re-
freshments will follow.
