Japanese Consider,
ChrysanthemumA
Symbol Of Love
When wo wear the chrysanthemumi to
;hCw our loyalty for our Alma Mater,
it i~ intero:-ting to -learn that this flow-
is looked upon by the "Japanese as a
symxbc bol q 4:e A Japanese consul to
thew-United states explained this tra-
diin at a flower sho w at the Amer-
ican Miiseum'of Natural History in
New York.
Among ,the..J2paIese there is a
custom to interpret flowers according
to flieir shapne, color and time of blos-
som The cherry blossom is beautiful
in -"the spring when everything is
brig~ht and gay. But should rain orl
wind come at the tine of blossoms,
the.flowers fall and wither immediate-
~y. :Hence they would symb~olize a fee-
ing, which perishes with the slightest
StoYrm.
The Japanese seek their ideal ym-
boli-n the chrysanthemutm because it
stands against'the severe frqlst, and fa I
the-midst of the autumn season., when!
the' lotuis Sies and the leaves of the;
t;,e~s fall, ixt remains to inspire and
cheer us' with its" wondrous splendour.
