Excavation rllreek It was "excavation week" for the Aggies. For the, next five days' brawn will be worth more than brains in this 0 institution, .of learning. Every man on the campus, from President R. S. Shaw down, has been drafted to do his bit toward digging the excavation for the proposed half-million-dollar Union Memorial building. The work has been outlined sys- tematically. Each of the men students and- each member of the faculty has three and a half cubic yards of dirt to move. Shifts of about 100 men will { work a half dayeacl. It is estimated that the allotted amount of earth can, be picked and shoveled away in that time.. Diggers Get Prizes is The shifts will be divided Into-three teams to compete for prizes offered by local merchants. l.By!next Friday those in charge of the undertaking hope to have the excavation ready for the con- tractors to start laying the foundation. The co-eds also will work in shifts, serving refreshments to the toilers. : - The Michigan. band is scheduled to play an hour each morning and after- noon to give the laborers the old fight- ing spirit. A huge mass meeting is being plan- ned for Friday to celebrate the turning of the last shovel full of dirt. MUSIC AND MUSICIANS "Cosi fa Tutte" Mozart's attrac- tive light opera, will be the offering at the third Choral Union concert on Thursday evening in Hill auditorium. William Wade Hinshaw, who presented the "Impresario" so successfully last year, is 40, c h rge of the . resentation this year. Of special import also is lthetIie, tht the rgigieih version of this charming work was written by the lath ifery E.lrehbil of New York, dean of American.musial critic... t lD°": geptoryofthe opera degls wit the love affairs of two young Neapolitan officers who decide to test the faith- - fulness of their prospective wives. A somewhat tragic yet mirthful mix-up, caused by the interference of the bach- elor synic, is the result; but, as usual, z the story ends happily with the conclu- sion that "it is woman's nature to flirt." Irene Williams, the celebrated Am- erican prima donna who heads the cast, needs no introduction, for she holds an envable place as a recitalist and concert artist of exceptional vocal abilty, combined with delightful acting and personal charm. The supporting cast is remarkable in that Mr. Hinshaw has been able to find singers who are capable of mastering Mozartean mus- ic, where so much depends not alone on difficult techique, but on range as well. A few tickets for this concert still remain, and may be obtained at the School of Music.
