Byers Sporting Editor Ferry Field, Oct.. 13-Displaying a scintallating offense which was pre- ! ponderously open, and an unpene- trable defense, Michigan's " Varsity football team wiped out the only blem- ish of last year's record, a scoreless tie game, by defeating Vanderbilt, thej chanpions of the South, this after- noon.. The Woliverine machine was far su- perior to the one which represented the Maize and Blue in the Case game and was able to hold the heavier Commodore team on almost every play. The line, giving 10 pounds a man to the Southerners, offset this ad- vantage by their keen fighting spirit, which had the Commodores on their toes throgghout the contest. FIRST QUARTER Captain Kipke won the toss- and! chose to defend the West goal. Ryan I kicked off to Kipke on his own five yard line who returned to the 23 yard line. Kipke kicked out of bounds on the Vanderbilt 28 yard line. Ryan stopped for no gain around left end. Ryan kicked to Uteritz who was downed in his tracks on the Michigan I 30 yard line.
