projection room, necessitating much
labor and expense. Later steel lathl
was used with practically the same;
compound as the barium brick andt
now, as a method that should be more,
substantial -and more economical, the1
barium brick is to be used.
The idea has been used to some ex-c
tent in Germany and the compound of'
barium sulphate as a confining ele-
ment' for the violet rays has been!
used in the form of mortar over steel4
lath, but this is the first time that itf
has been employed in brick in this;
country.
There will be two rooms in the new
hospital devoted to the treatment . of
patients with the violet ray and the1
brick will be used to insulate these
rooms. The doors will be covered
with the lead as the brick would be
unwieldy and too heavy for this use
Behind these rooms will be the ma-
chines operating the X-ray and be-
tween the two treatment rooms the
room of the operator will be located
It would be impossible for an operator I
to stay in the room but for the use
of the confining substance, for whilel
the ray is not injurious to the patient l
for the short period that he is expos-
ed, it would be hurtful to the operator
if he were to be exposed to it for any,
length of time.
