HOBART REURNS- FO IU CTIONA MEET PRESSED WITH FACT THAT GUIDANCE PRESENTS REAL PROBLEMi . Impressed with the fact that the field of vocational education in co lege is .new and that the person who work_ out a constructive plan for it will be doing a real service,. Mrs. Amy S. IX bart, assistant dean of women, returned Monday from the annual con- feren e of the 'National Vocational Guidance association which met Feb. 21-23 in Chicago, Personnel work in colleges in par- ticular was discussed at auncheon on the opening day of the conference. Striking the keynote of the general feeling, the representatives of the uni- versities and colleges seemed to show a desire to 'learn about the field rath- er than to cite the accomplishments which have been made. In most of the colleges which were represented, more stress has been laid upon the career and the aptitudes of the student in college .rather than upon a working record of the careers of college grad- uates who have actually tried out the lines )f work. Knowledge of the vo- cational opportunities open to men and wowen is also inan Initial stage. One of the most' interesting and helpfulpapers given during the whole convention, according to the opinion of Mrs. Hobart, was that of Dr. George E. Myers, professor of vocational ed- ucation in the University. The subject of Dr. Myer's paper was "A Critical Review of Present Developments in Vocational Guidance with Special Re- ference to Future Prospects," in which .he made the point that vocational guidance should be considered as a part of education and not as some- thing to be added to it. Physiological aspects of vocational guidance was discussed by Dr. Henry E. Mock, of Chicago, while the prob- lem of 'emtional fitness as well as physical fitness for occupation was taken u. Mrs. Hobart feels, however, that the trend of the conference seem- ed to emphasize the fact that much more attention has been paid to the development of vocational education and guidance in the grades and high schools than in the colleges where it is much needed. Mrs. Shambaugh to Address Club Mrs. Helen Shambaugh who has charge of the part time schooling in Ann Arbor will speak to the members of the Women's Educational club at 4 o'clock tomorrow in room 203, Tappan hall.
