In proceeding in his discussion of.
the science of "human: engineering"'
with which the count has created a
sensation in the scientific world in his
book entitled the "Manhood of Hu-
mnanity", he stated tliat the first con-
cern of human engineering was to
find an adequate definition of man.
ISha definition he believes should
be in terms of matter, space, and
time. "Matter, space and time over-
lap," he said. "Oases in which they
do not overlap may be considered ab-
stractions. We measure heat in terms 1
of the effect of heat. In the same
,manner we mrust look for the effect
of man before we can hope to find an
adequate definition.
"This 'effect' is the 'power of man
to carry on the work of his ancestors

may thus define man as the mammal
