THE MICHIGAN DAILY ORCHING SUN FJ ENTHUSIASM el and Uteritz Expected Back i Game Early Next Week SCR M AGE WITH RESERVES SLATED FOR THIS AFTERNOON As one of the many sweltering players out on Ferry field yesterday afternoon put it, "a little cold weathe would go awfully good on a hot day like this." Certain it is that th thermometer was doing . stunts al through practiceyesterday, but even the climbing of the mercury had little apparent effect onthebustle of practice. Variety In Practice There were plenty of courses on the hard work banquet dished out to the gridders by the coaching staff Blocking and charging practice, now past the rudimentary stage, has de veloped into a demonstration of the technicalities that make line work a science in itself, and the Wolverine forward wall was given plenty to d by Coaches Little, Weiman, and Sturz negger. The biggest attraction to the goodly number of witnesses who re- fused to let the scorching sun inter- fere with their interest in practic was the elucidation of the science 01 playing the pivot position as pro- pounded by Coach "Ernie" Vick with: Slaughter, the rangy southern candi- date for the post, as his chief pupil. The big boy seems to be getting the knack of the job with a pleasing de- gree ofaptitude: and if Vick can im- part a fair degree of his All-Ameri- can knowledge to this, promising sophomnore it is a safe bet that the SIKI SIGNS CONTRACT FOR NEWYORK BOUl, SENEGALESE NEGRO AGREES MET ANY MAN NAMED BY RICKARD TO (By Associated Pres) New York, Sept. 29.-Battling Siki, the Senegalese Negro, who sprang into prominence by knocking out Georges Carpentier in Paris last Sunday, will fight in this city on or about Thanks- giving Day, Nov. 30. This announce- ient Was made today by Tex Rickard, Madison . Square Garden fight pro- moter, who'stated that he hhd received Siki's acceptance to meet any light heavyweight on that date who might be named by Rickard. Promoter Rickard has conducted ne- gotiations with M. Hellers, Siki's manager, by cable for several days, and his announcement marks the end of an interesting contest between sev- eral American fight promoters to ob- tain control of Siki's pugilistic serv- ices in this country. Hint Dempsey Next Rickard refused to tell the exact financial arrangements made with the Senegalese fighter; but it is understood the contract closed by cable today calls for Siki to meet Jack Dempsey next summer, should he win his bout Thanksgiving Day. A clause also is incorporated in the agreement which provides that Rick- ard may promote, if he so desires, a contest between the world's champ- ion and the conquerer of Carpentier next summer, regardless of the out- come of Siki's first match in this country. It is said the latest Negro pugilistic sensation will arrive in this country about Nov. 1, and will train in or near this city for his bout tentatively set for Thanksgiving Day. Opponent a Secret Rickard declined to name Siki's op- ponent, but stated he was conducting negotiations with several light-heavy- weights and would select the most promising man for the ,fight for the world's light-heavyweight champion- ship, now held by Siki as a result of his knockout of Carpentier. If the bout is held at Madison Square Garden, as appears probable, it will be a 15-round contest to a decision under the New York state boxing reg- ulations.
