The recent claim.. of extravagance on
theas t f English college :students
ha brought forth the query as to
how expenses in England and Amer-
;,ca cornr ?re. According to Ralph M.I
Carson, .'23L, and former Rhodes
scholar,: the least expensive of the
schools _or colleges at Oxford is Oriel
which costs 60- pounds a semester, or
approximiately .:$900 per year of three
terms. The most expensive is Baliel
college which. charges 85" pounds a
term. -
In all, the' least. expensive course a
student may tame at Oxford,. including
his vacation trips, comes in the neigh-f
horhood, of $2,000- a- year. That, Car-
-son says, dloes not include sailing trips,
hunting trips or the fine clothes which
some English students affect. Much
more than that ;is spent, in the other
colleges, he declared.
Considering that the average Am-
erican college student does not spend
much more than $100 a month, the !
English school app-ears somewhat ex-
travagant,' according toy Carson.
