r FHESHMEN WOMEN TO 0E HONORED SATURDAY r ,. iE I . , . i Freshman women will be the guests of honor at the Freshman Spread which will be held on Saturday, Nov. 25. Women of the sophomore class will be hostesses of the' evening, and juniors will be appointed to escort the freshmen to and from the dance. The Freshman Spread, which is one of the most important social events for women during the year, was originated in 1884 when a small group of sopho- mores entertained some freshmen at dinner. The affair became an annual dinner, and grew until all the women of the University were invited. With the great increase in the size of the University, it became impossible to continue the practice of giving a din- ner, so the affair became a dance. Plans for this wear are being made under the direction of Alice Powell, vice-president of last year's freshman class, and Jeanne Briggs, vice-pres- idnt of the sophomore class. Arrange- ments arenearly completed, and final decisions will be made at. a meeting of the committee this afternoon. Theaters WHITNEY "Up in the Clouds," a new musical comedy o; youth, romance, novelty and surprises, will be given next Sun- day, Nov. 26, at the Whitney theater. This play, written, by Will B. John- stone and produced under the person- al direction of Joseph M.'Gaites, comes from the 44th Street theater, New York. While running in New York it is claimed that it scored one of the most emphatic hits of the season it played )nd ran right through the reason. The beauty chorus is one of the fea- tures of the show. 'It was selected by Mr. Gates from hundreds of the mod- els of the metropolis, practically every modiste shop in New York havinga been searched for color that would: lend tone to the girls who will wear the gorgeous gowns resigned by well known American costumers, It is also maintained by persons who have seen the play that the music is especially catchy and that the audi- ence is whistling and humming the airs before the show is over.
