SCHOOLS IN MICHIGAN WILL JOIN DEBATINGASSOCiTION From 135 to 150 higi schools throughout the state have signified their intentions of becoming members of the high school Debating league, according to Carl G. Brandt, state manager of the league. According to Brandt, who has abso- lute authority in the selection of ma- terial, arrangement of a schedule and th~e selection of a .subject, the debates will be conducted in a manner some- what similar to that of last year. Each three members are to debate on both the affirmative and negative sides of the question. By a series of four elim- ination debates to be held 04 various times during the year, the tWo best teams in the state will be chosen to debate in Ann Arbor for the state title. A silver loving cup will be presented to the winning team. The second Friday in the month of December has been set for the first debate. The subject this year as an- nounced by Brandt is: "Resolved that the United States and Canada should jointly construct the Great Lakes to the Atlantic waterway through the St. Lawrence river. All material relating to the subject will be sent to the high schools taking part in the- debates, by Miss Edith Thonmas, assistant in charge of the University Extension service. COOPERATION WITH LEAGUE TO BE DISCUSSED BY NURSES Cooperation with the Women's League will be discussed at a meet- ing of the Student Council at the Nurses' Dormitory on Monday even- ing,. October 16. At the present time a'majority of the upperclass nurses are members of the League, but as yet no action, has been taken on the part of the entering freshmen. In the near future a representative may address the nurses, and give to the new girls a 'learer idea concerning the motives and activities of the League.. L. ___ \] r /r .
