Violation, Meant Reduetion
The violation of this clause at any
time would have meant that the Uni-
versity mill tax appropriation would
r have been reduced to an income of
$250,000 for that year.
This provision was contained in ev-
i ry mill tax bill that the Board of Re-
gents has~ presented to the Legisla-
ture since 1907, and perhaps earlier.,
When it was presented" in l9 2l the
clause was left intact by the Regents
as it had been for the past 14 years.
Where had never been any .sugges-
Uion of removing it.
During its passage through the Leg-
islature, however, 'it was perceivedl
that the clause was, inadequate be-
cause it did not properly 'designate
.the schools and .colleges of the 'Uni-
versity having become archaic in its'
meaning with the introduction of new.
depiartments in the University.

It was further believed that it ham°-
pered the Regents in their adminis-
tration of University affairs and for'
these two reasons it was, struck out
during its trip' through the two
houses.
The elimination of this clause op-
erred the way for; further Legislative
action in the fall when it was voted
to 'discontinue the homuoeopathic,
school..

LIBIRALS HOLD MEETING
SThe Liberal, Club, in a meeting last '
night at the Union, made plans for
bringing here, at group of promnent
speaker~s on political and economic
subjects.
A change was introduced in the
meeting last night in that the pro-
gram conisisted' of a' general discus-
sion whereas in previous meetings a
definite arrangement had been em-
ployed. The topic which was debated.
last night was "Cooperation' In Rela-
tipn. to, Production and Distribution."
'Speak~s on French Paiter
The ,last lecture of the Cercle Fran-
casi series was given Wednesday aft-
ernoon at 4:15 o'clock in Natural. Sci-
ence auditorium by Prof. H. R. Thieme,
of the French department. "Jean
Francois Millet," the famous painter
of French peasant life, was the sub-
ject of the lecture which was, accom-
panried by slides of the artist's most
doted paintings.
