Professors Tell
How TO Study
"The best thing for some of the
fellows to do is to take a fish-pole in
one hand, sit in a canoe, in the middle;
of a quiet lake, and meditate. The
only other way in which they will ev-
er accomplish anything is to take an
all-day sucker' for refreshment and
spend a whole night at studying." That
was the statement made by Dr. F. B.
Wahr, assistant to the Dean of Men,
when he was askew ror a formula on
"How to Study".
Prof. J. A. C. Hildner, of the Ger-
man department, says, "You don't need
a method of study if you are interested
in your work." Prof. Hildner there-
fore urges that students select only
those subjects which are allied to, or
at least contributing to, their .final
work.
Prof. Guy M. Whipple, of the School
of Education, has made an extensive
study of the question, and lays down
a set of definite rules for the student
to follow. The more outstanding of
ti'emi are:
"Good physical condition is neces-
sary for effective study. Sleep eight
hours a day. See to it that your light
is good where you study. Have a well
arranged desk, and a comfortable
chair. Form definite time and place
study, habits. Prepare assignments
as soon as possible after they are giv-
en. Always concentrate when you
study. Do not learn things merely for
a day. Learn them to remember
them. Get away from the idea that
you are working for a teacher. Work
for yourself. Don't seek help until
it is absolutely necessary. Always
review the previous lesson when you
start to study. Spend most of your
time on your weak subjects. Learn
to discriminate between important and
unimportant points. When repetition
is necessary for the mastery of a les-
