Maroons Look Weak
the past Coach Stagg's track pro-
have consistently fallen prey to
Volverines, both indoor and out-
and indications that his 1922
1 will become the least inconsist-
n this regard tomorrow are in-
extremely null. On last Satur-
Purdue's team, somewhat hard
r ineligibilities and far from be-
world beater, trimmed the Ma-
after an exciting meet by the
of 45 1-2 to 40 1-2. Far from

squad would be exceptionally

ds being blasted, and nothing

Strengthened by the appearance in
uniform of Captain Ernie Vick, Coach
Ray FPisher's 1922 baseball squad con-
tinued its preliminary practice in Wat-
erman gymnasium yesterday after-
noon. One shadow was cast across
the otherwise perfect afternoon in the
shape of news that Jimmy Johnson,
last year's first baseman had been de-
clared ineligible because of scholastic
difficulties. Myers of the 1924 All-
fresh squad is the only other man re-
ported as lost to Fisher because of
grades.
Straight Balls Only
The men are still in a stage of limb-
ering up unused muscles and working
out the winter kinks. As yet, the'
pitchers are allowed to throw nothing
but straight ones and it is enough to
keep a man busy to see that infielders
do not snap them around in such a
way as to injure their arms. ".High-
Low" games are in great demand and
the men are rapidly developing into
physical condition. There has been no
batting practice as yet and it i not
likely that the men will be allowed to
wield the willow until the first of next
week at least.
One of Fisher's most perplexing
problems is to plug the holes in his
infield left vacant by the graduation
of Shortstop Pete Van Boven and Third
Baseman Joe Karpus. Wimbles, Ab-
bott and Ted Banks of football fame
seem to be the most likely. candidates
for these positions.
Many Outfielders
There is quite a squad 'of outfielders
among the aspirants. Shackletord,
last year's first baseman is likely to
be pushed into the outfield by Bob
Knode the versatile southpaw first
sacker and another of the line of fam-
ous Knode athletes at Michigan. Ronan
and Klein of last year's squad are also
available so Coach Fisher should have
little difficulty in filling the places held
last year by Genebach and Perrin.

Coach Fisher is being assisted in
whipping the squad into shape by Del
Pratt, former mentor here, who left the
Michiigan team at the end of their
Southern trip 'last spring in order td
join the Boston Red Sox where he
holds down the position of second base.
"Del" leaves for the South for his
spring training about the 15th of this
month.
